Rubbermade

~

This is better than blogging! Takes up more space and less writing ha-ha!

This is Daniel Garcia's Rubbermade (phase1) from The Daniel Garcia Project lecture series. There are a couple of conditions to performing this effect:

1. The rubberband can be borrowed. There must be no slits.
2. The ring can be borrowed. No cuts or slits either.
3. No switching of rings and/or the rubberband. Only one rubber band and ring is used.
4. The rubberband and ring can be inspected.

That said, this one hurts like hell when you fail to get the ring into the rubberband.

Battle of the Sexes

--

What kind of writer would the Insomniac be if I was afraid to delve into topics that will never get closure or answers?

April 1, 2006, the MRT (Metro Rail Transit) has implemented a segregation scheme wherein the first car of the train will be reserved for women, the elderly and disabled. It has been hell riding the MRT during rush hour ever since. I have no issues about delegating a section of the train for the disabled and the elderly and/or the pregnant. I will even have no issues about women getting their own car if only they’d stick to their end of the bargain.

The problem is, it is already difficult enough slithering through the crowd trying to get into the train doors and even when you’re already inside, you have to do more slithering to get to a decent spot where I’m not sandwiched by two tall fat men with their arms raised to the handrails so that their sweaty armpits are just beside me. Ok, that’s a long sentence, but inside the train that’s supposed to be devoid of women, we see a lot of them – taking the seats, the handrails etc. and causing it to crowd like a Woodstock concert. The fantastic thing is when you look at the car supposedly dedicated to women, it’s half-empty! Women are causing the man-trains to crowd when they should be riding on their women-elderly-disabled-and-pregnant-trains!

The good thing about the situation is that I learned to throw my code of chivalry out window when it comes to commuting via the MRT. I no longer stand so that a lady can take my seat. I no longer give my handrail when an elder comes in front of me willing me to give up my spot. Hell, they have their own train, why didn’t they take that one? I mean, it’s just the first car on a 3-car train! I no longer care if step on their open feet because they’re wearing sandals and I don’t care if I bump their bosoms or butts if they refuse to give way when I’m passing through. Women want equality among the sexes, they have to be prepared for it.

Which brings me to my next point – males and females will NEVER be equal.

Why? As long as there are women who expect to be seated on the MRT, as long as women expect their men to open car and restaurant doors before them, the sexes will never be equal. If you’re a female and you expect equality between men and women, then don’t expect your date to foot the bill on a dinner date. You have to know that you can go ahead and court a guy that you’ve been crushing on. You have to realize that you are also sexual beings that have an at least monthly cyclic “peak” period (men are not horny, we just know our biological wants). Realise these things, otherwise, your crusades for feminism will never work.

Rent

~

So what has the Insomniac been up to the last three weeks? A lot.

For one, my new position here at work is giving me less time for my writing. I also needed time away from people experiencing idiotic heartache problems as with the last posts. Somehow, some people never get any wiser.

-

I found myself concentrating on doing magic more now since I've brought back Story Circle. The guys at SC have been so far successful at organizing mini-workgroup sessions weekly and it's a blast meeting fellow indie magicians. This isn't such a bad career shift after all. Well, when the time comes. I just wish the Philippine magic industry gets as big as Las Vegas or the UK - Speaking of which, Derren Brown's touring Asia. I just don't think he'll chance by the Philippines.

-

We got to watch Rent on video. I probably wouldn't appreciate it more on stage and live even. It's just not that relatable - it being about the American sub culture and all. However, the story of it which tells about struggling artists just reminds me of Reality Bites. The movie was excruciatingly long or maybe it seemed so because there were just too many musical productions that you forget the plot in no time.

For me, there are just too many events on the movie that normally would be cut out during post-production. Or maybe everything about the play/movie is just superficial. It's just not that interesting to watch a couple of American-Bohemians struggle it out day by day without any big conflicts or inspiring moments.

The last movie we’ve seen: Ice Age 2: The Meltdown. It was a laugh trip. No need to review.

-

I'm getting around with my toxic schedule lately and in due time, I'll have fixed some time for my wrting.
